While it is the second most common cause of mental retardation, Fragile X Syndrome still remains a largely unknown phenomenon. This is a gripping look inside one family where all members are affected by this inherited chromosomal disorder. A film by Eric Kutner.

  • Lol "you're gonna help me", "No Im not!" Priceless!

  • It is genetic; it is not "inherited." Inherited means that the gene responsible is shared with the mother or father (or both). In Turner Syndrome, it is the lack of a second X chromosome that is responsible for the mental deficit---not a defective set of genes.

  • @PoisonTea4u fragile x has been a round way before agent orange some casuse might be caused by it but fragile x was around way way before that

  • Agent Orange is a cause of some Fragile X

  • @Ocelot1962 I agree 100%

  • jb55101,

I am sorry but I don't understand a word from what you are saying. You reacted on a video of fragile X, what does the male partner and his drinking and drugs habbits have to do with that?

  • Unless you are "looking" for Fragile X at birth, it will go undiagnosed until the children are older and genetic testing is done. This scenario is very common in this syndrome. The mother is the "carrier" of the genetic defect, not the father.

  • there not even really fargile x they are only very mild they arent even ''retardded'' this family appears to have like mntal illness issues rather than DD/MR--- well the older guy waerign the diapers ad t shirt playing wit the bowls eem to be the only DD/MR one there,,, but fragile x is very diverese, some are actually DD / MR some only have lkike LD and BD issues. ehhi its all difference it makes the worl d go round

  • how come that older guy walks aroumd wearing a daiper ? ( the one spinning the bowls ) i mean hes disabled and all but hse walks around with a nappy on and a t shirt like a baby ? why ?

  • This film says nothing about the father(s). How is it a woman with fragile x goes on to have not one, not two, but three children with no father around. I hate to sound like a eugenicist, but someone should have intervened after the birth of the first child and had her tubes tied.
