Use this "above plane board" drill to understand how to drop the club into "the slot" so you can support impact with your pivot.

***Warning*** Start slowly with this drill to avoid any injury.

  • how do you stop someone from coming from the inside too much which is causing me shanks/fat shots etc.?

  • @jhaley12 First, you have to figure out why your club face is closed. Generally in to out paths are trying to avoid a miss to the left. I'd get you using a rolled up bath towel on the ground, parallel to your target line. Set the ball a couple inches away from the towel to allow for the club head, but the towel will motivate you not to be inside out because your hit it and have to reset it. Play the ball toward the left side of the rolled up towel. You can use a club box for this too. Cheers.

  • Is it not easier to take the club handle away with the left arm and then start the dowswing with a pulling of the left with the right(pushing) joining in 1/1000 of a second,in other words together.Well maintaining the wedges. This is what Sam Snead reccomended for the takeaway and downswing, claiming people over analyze this.It has made things alot simpler and made me a great ball striker, for every club in the bag.

  • @secretogolf Based on this video, I'm not sure what you mean? Everyone has preferences, and mine is to start the backswing with the core, rather than a "one piece" takeaway. Cheers, Martin

  • This is a simple way to unlock the potential in your swing.. Those of you who have comments counter to what he is saying are either way too advanced to learn anything from it, or absolutely hideous. I teach the swing to kids, and this drill helps them keep the club behind them a little longer, and that gives them the "feel" of the tension between their lower and upper body.. Excellent video.

  • @cmartingolf thanks. I think that I am not coming from the inside like I've been told because I have a mat and net in my back yard and the "swipe marks" on the sole of the club say i'm coming over it. I just tried coming from what I thought was too far inside and hit it pure. For some reason my hands are getting closer to the ball at impact. So you think I'm shutting the clubface during impact? I really appreciate your help, you're the only one to answer my question. thanks so much.

  • This is an excellent lesson, a good player can certainly derive a great deal from this video.

  • fighting that "cross over" swing path is a problem thing for me. No matter what tip or drill i use, i cant seem to have an in out or in in swing path with longer clubs. cant afford a golf pro at the moment but it seems that thats my only option
