This was when Radio was Radio. Simple promotions, great music, and fun dj's. Nowadays radio is nothing. Too many nationally syndicated shows instead of local personalities. And Clear Channel has praticically taken over every radio station in the country. Of course there's satelite radio as well. Radio is just not the way it used to be today.

I don't listen to the radio much anymore, with clear channel canned radio (canned s__t). Maybe WBBM out Chicago. I do remember the late BARNEY PIP on WOKY 920 in MILWAUKEE, WIS. He was there a short time before moving WCFL. And I think I'm right when say he was a very funny man. R.I.P. BARNEY.

How about that? A broadcast from exactly 45 years ago today: Friday, March 18, 1966. I just love these old radio broadcasts.

@critic2080 That is so strange and sad.....similar thing happened to another great 60's AM radio DJ, Fred Freelance (Freg Mugler originally from Missouri I believe), of Roanoke, VA's WROV AM1240. He should have been in a major market like Chicago,however, he was our "hometown hero."

Fred was found dead (yeah, I know, "Fred is dead") in his apartment from a fire...he apparently went to sleep with a lit cigarette, and died from smoke inhalation on....a Friday the 13th..in themid 80's.

XM comes somewhat close to "personality radio", but commercial radio is completely gone! The wimps that are DJs on radio can't compare to the ones of the '50s-'70s. Today they can't pick their own music, and what music they play is the same CRAP played over and over and over . . .
