  • I guess if you're used to putting the specimen in the same spot all the time you wouldn't have a problem but if you're starting out wouldn't it be good to mark the slide around the area so you know where to apply the stains and everything else?

  • There are grease pens that can be used to make a circular area to hold the sample. Sharpies, etc., are not a good idea since the ink will dissolve and can interfere with some stains.

    Our SOPs print with a 1" x 3" rectangle with 1-3 circular spots as a guide. The student positions the slide within the rectangle and places specimens in the spots according to the step-by-step instructions.

  • Don't like multiple specimens on a slide carryover can give false positives on Blood cultures/Cerebro spinal/Synovial fluids.
