This video is dedicated to a great guy we met at the Spring Fishing and Boat Show the other week: his name is Chuck, and he is an avid smelt fisherman. It was great meeting him and some of our other subscribers; it was an honour to meet you all!

This video shows the secrets, tips, and techniques to help you catch smelt after smelt while ice fishing.

Next parts are the cleaning and cooking of smelts.

  • I fish in a salt water estuary connected to the ocean, when would it be better to fish on low tide or high tide?

  • @hockeycanada42 Fishing is usually better with the incoming tide, so high tide would be at its peak time of best fishing. Thanks & good fishing in 2012!

  • can u use the same techniques in saltwater for smelt or in salt water would you use sebikis like what you would use for mackerel or herring?

  • @bluefin2000JVA The same technique can also be used in salt water. Just remember that these fish respond to moving baits. You'll get far more bites when the bait is costantly moved. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures cool thanks! i also have one more question: where would you recomend going fishing for smelt in the boston MA area? thanks again!

  • @bluefin2000JVA As we have not fished for smelt in the Boston area, we don't know where to fish for them. Wish we could help you in that regard. Thanks & good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures thanks again! good luck fishing!

  • @MrPokemonfan231 smelt are game fish in Pennsylvania so they dont only live in saltwater

  • @kantcus357 Smelts are bigger than minnows...they typically run from around 5 inches on the small size to 10 inches on the large size.

Thanks for tuning in and good luck on the water
