Really, all governments engage in central planning of economies. If there were a CEO brought in on the virtue of not having a strict plan or any kind of vision, preferring to just let the market dictate what the course of action should be, he'd be fired for being clueless, and the same applies to governance.

@Fancypantsmonkey The tactic I have been hearing lately is to deny the existence of human nature. I had to live through the 1950s and early 1960s during the time when we not only had "Duck and Cover" drills at school, but "Atomic Brand Firecrackers" from Macau, China. Not a week would go by without a song or an article on an atomic weapon was being seen or heard. Songs such as "Atom Bomb Baby"; "Fallout Shelter" and "Radiation Baby" were, after all, bought played.

@Fancypantsmonkey The actual problem with socialism is that you can't do central economy planning - you can't predict the future accurately enough. As for communism, even Marx stated that it was an end result of socialism, and not where any nation would start. There's never been a true communist state.

@southwriter Why don't we all generally agree that ALL forms of mass killings are wrong whether or not they are genocide, purges or "ethnic cleansing". Saying one nation killed less than the other does not justify anything. Its a dirty part of any nation's history.
