Watch the video "What is Fresco?" first before watching this video. Then see how fresco painter Liana Sofia Tumino detaches a fresco from the wall? During the 18th century new techniques were perfected for the restoration and conservation of ancient works of art. There are three removal methods for detaching fresco paintings from walls, the least invasive is called, "The Strappo Technique." Liana Sofia demonstrates as she detaches one of her newest frescoes titled "Penelope" off of the wall and transfers it onto linen. "Strappo" (strappare) means "to tear" or "to detach."

    Grazie

    Maurizio

  • Thank you. Does this work for acrylic as well as oil paint? Or would the acrylic wash away?

  • Absolutely beautiful! Liana, how is the finished fresco mounted onto the final Linen background? Thank you for allowing us to see and learn about this extraordinary art process.
