What better way to beat the Barbarian King than by using the Barbarian Hammer.
Altering Slash is used at the start just for lulz and to continue the 'purplising' of enemies theme. Purple Horse from stage 1 coming soon.
I chose to 'trick' through his attacks with Euryales Head when he was in his giant phase. I didn't pound him particularly quickly and I didn't use the bow to rain the pain quicker, instead I focused on pacing the hammer blows and making sure I 'tricked' each attack. He caught me once but I can live with that, there is a full health and magic refill after the fight.

Too tired to write an EPIC description.
Expect an edit.
Edit; for great justice!
This tactic may not be for everyone timing the tricks is quite tricky but I reckon I could just about manage it even with with a level1 hammer. There are other (better) bonus play tactics for this fight check out bigVEEs masterpiece. PS to the Groin oh YEAH. Even that tactic requires timing of the PS to keep him in the stun animation and is trickier than he makes it look.
I know I could have wailed on the BK as he was growing but where's the fun? I made this video just for the "Purple Whopper" factor and to see if I could trick through all of his attacks when he was giant and bring him back down to size just by bashing his toes. Thank god he wasn't wearing steel toe capped boots. This vid won't be much help to anyone struggling on a normal play run through. Such a ridiculously dangerous tactic would not pay off unless you already have a "big bang" secondary weapon. Lashing away at him with the BoA (at level 1-3 depending) in between his big swings just aint gonna cut it. Under these conditions either keep your distance and nail him with PoP or Spirit or wail on him with RotT 3xsquare combo the minute he starts to grow and throw some CR in there if it looks like he is ging to hit you. If you use your RotT in stage 3 then stage 4 is square attacks, blocks then when he does the 'soul sharp shooter' (where he rears back and raises the hammer and releases souls) then back off initially then roll TOWARDS him as the souls are released then lather, rinse, repeat. Always repeat. Always repeat. Condition if required.

We were both great again but the Purple Barbarian King stole the show.

  • I've never really used RG either. I wasn't too good it at it, I was Swordmaster myself also.

  • O mashing FTW.

  • I suppose this is more of a question GMG could answer, unless you know anything of it addam?

I was just wondering though, is it harder to bow trick through attacks in GoWII or to use Royal Gaurd in DMC? Just a random question.

  • Never used Royal Guard so I really can't say. For me it was Swordmaster all the way.

DMC is far more frantic (IMO) so I would guess tricking is easier.

  • that makes lots of sense.

  • This is god of war 2 dumbass. Y;know from the PS2 back in the day?

Its good that you compared it to current gen 360 stufff though.

  • Clearly the answer was RG.

  • Try eliminating variables. Charge doesn't matter as there is only one fire type for Wind Blast. Distance can be cleared up by keeping to point-blank...use RotT if need be. Find a certain animation to open fire on. Fire once when he is just swinging his weapon. Another for when he is charging his souls. Another still for when he is just about to release. Compare. From what you are saying, 24 hits is what you net at close. At range it would be less since there is a timer for the attack.

  • Sounds good. I'm setting up to record the current Translator strat right now. My food will likely be done before I can sit down and do so..but it should be just barely bright enough despite the snowy weather and the lack of fan light. I'll record it after lunch.

  • Done the stage 1 testing. Will upload later. From initial experience number of hits seems to vary with distance when fired, not the number of souls or the speed the BK is moving at, or the length of time charged for, or the number of 'visible' souls Have not yet re-watched for secondary analysis. In stage 4 Charged WB only ever scores 24 hits even if it hits the "soul sharp shooter" mid-flight.
