  • Love this

And also that this is surely the only band in the world with a name inspired by Anthony Powell.

  • "...this is surely the only band in the world with a name inspired by Anthony Powell..."

Lol - Geoff, you may be the very first person to catch the reference.

Yes, our name comes from "Books Do Furnish A Room", one of the later books (10th?) in Powell's series "Dance to the Music of Time".

It's also a reference to a cool independent bookstore of the same name in Durham NC that we hang out at. Google booksdofurnisharoom -- it'll be the first hit.

  • Volume 12: "Hearing Secret Harmonies"

  • A Question of Upbringing A Buyer's Market The Acceptance World At Lady Molly's Casanova's Chinese Restaurant The Kindly Ones The Valley of Bones The Soldier's Art The Military Philosophers Books Do Furnish a Room Temporary Kings Hearing Secret Harmonies Wouldn't these would make great names for a series of songs or albums?
  • nice cover. it's fun going up for the chromatics

  • "...it's fun going up for the chromatics"

Thanks. That is so true, especially during a dual solo like this one. With the volume "on 11" as we had it that night, it sounded like a goddamn cyclone in there.

You can find several YouTube videos that capture this performance from various angles (one from onstage, even). I often wonder what it would take to knit them together.

  • Thanks, RedxRainbow. We aim for faithful renderings of the original tunes (e.g. the original arrangements, using the same stripped-down sound Television used), though in a live setting we tend to get carried away with the solos. But we figure what the hell, Lloyd and Verlaine did too, so maybe that's ok. ;)

  • right on

  • Appreciate it, doctordupree -- very gratifying to know that people in the UK are checking us out.

We try to shoot for a note for note rendition of the LP, but inevitably things get out of hand... ;)

  • Thanks nununez. It's funny: every time we play this tune, it gets louder. Something about it... ;)
