During the 1970s, long before Instant Messaging, You Tube, and Howard Stern became part of our vernacular, a young man from Marin County, CA hosted an outrageous free-form entertainment service via his home telephone line and several answering machines. In this interview originally filmed for Marin's Viacom Cable channel, Mark 'Spazz' Power discusses the origin of his "Dial-a-Spazz" creation and the highs of running an anonymous place for people to speak their minds, act crazy, and meet new people.

Mark still lives in Marin. He had to pull the plug on DAS in 1998 when he moved to Novato as the phone company wouldn't install the lines to support it in his new house.

I remember Dial-A-Spazz! omg, yep, I was there (had no business, still in junior high & high school!). But he's kind of right, it was so innocent back then. We were all very lucky in that way. I even got a fun, respectable date out of it once. Friends & I had a great time with it. Mark was way ahead of his time....There were other rogue lines in the Bay Area, too ("loop lines") c/o phone co. workers, haha!. They could get crazy, those larger coverage areas. But mostly fun, too.
