Check out my web site http://MyPlasticfreeLife.com . I collect and tally my plastic waste and blog about ways to reduce our plastic waste and plastic consumption. In 2009, my plastic waste came to less than 4% of that of the average American. Here's what I ended up with, along with suggestions for how you can do it too!

  • I find it funny that she's using a computer to make all this "Plastic Resolution" bullshit.

  • @iVideoful There's a difference between disposable, single-use plastic and durable plastic products. I have nothing against technology. But I do have a problem with indiscriminate overconsumption. In addition to not buying disposable plastic, I also don't buy new electronics. This computer is 5 years old (bought before I started this project) and I intend to use it and repair it until it's dead.

  • Hi Mcanski. Try the vendor called Greenfeet online. Search for "coconut coir" and you will see the scrubbers. I would copy the link here but I'm on my mobile phone and for some reason cannot copy into this comment.

  • Beanie, I think some of it was plastic I already had before 2007 that I saved, and some of it (bottles) I found in the street. :-)

  • Beth you are my hero!! I wish more people could be like you and stop wasting so much! This is inspirational, I've made a few steps (i.e. reusable menstrual products, steel water bottles, reusable baggies, cloth shopping bags, etc) but I've still got a long way to go. Someday I hope to be nearly completely plastic free!!! :D

  • That just seems like a lot of work to go through. I say just enjoy life and let the environment take care of itself. I don't like washing dishes so I use paper plates, plastic silverware, and paper cups. I never recycle. I go to the store a couple times a day and buy a candy bar. On the way home, I just toss the plastic bag they give me on the ground.
