There were many of versions of this film that followed. But for the cogniscenti, this is by far the superior one. It's on DVD, but may be hard to track down.

I disagree. I find that for all its faults the 1996 miniseries staring Ted Danson was the best adaptation and the only one I am aware of that adapted the entire book, not just the first 2 journeys.
