Connors played in 2 Australian Opens. He won in 74 against Rosewall but lost in 75 against Newcombe. Just thought I'd correct that comment posted earlier. BTW I am a Connors follower from way back. 1973 when he won doubles at Wimbledon.

Jimmy was the most spectacular player of the most spectacular era for tennis that ever happen. The 70 and 80´s.
From Laver and Rosewall to Becker and Edberg, with the mainstream being Mc,Borg and Jimbo and later on Lendl.
Second stringers? Vilas,Nastase,Gerulaitis,Cash.
.. would you watch Tsonga,Ferrer,Verdasco o Davidhenko instead? You can´t be serious¡¡¡¡

I could not say it better.Tennis in the 70 and 80 was pure gold, from Laver to Edberg.

Mc and Jimmy did more for tennis in 5 years than any other player will do in 50¡¡¡

The God of tennis!! In spite of Typhoon was approching to Tokyo, I went to met him. And not able to came back home! Yes, I am a enthusiast about JC!

In today's tennis, where the players are 2 meters high,Connors would be not even the ball boy.

OPPSEY! You done forgot Jimmy's 5 U.S. Opens. Shame on you!!! And had the Australian Open meant more to most of the players of that era, I'm quite certain one could add additional majors to Conners' long, prestigious list. Personally, I give the GREATEST nod to the Rocket. If he had played the majors for those 6 years he was banned, he'd of had a few more GRAND SLAMS 4 sure and at least a few more single slams here and there. But he wasn't as exciting as Jimbo! No one was, before or since.

I can only say that what Conners did for tennis, at least, here in the States was unparalleled. 4 Average Joe's like myself, tennis was always considered an elites sport. One usually came from the privileged, country club pack if they played tennis and golf. Jimmy portrayed a working man's mentality and he played with an animal like abandonment. He was not, perhaps the GREATEST, but he was the most EXCITING man to watch! Conners took the sissy out of tennis with one macho grunt!
Le plus grand showman de l'histoire du tennis.
The most exciting tennis player of all-time.
JIMBO FOR EVER.
