@CamilleNadia One Life to Live used to be an awesome show. It's a shame it's been cancelled, along with All My Children, Guiding Light and As the World Turns in recent years. The Daytime Soap is on life support.
OLTL was great, especially when they dealt with serious issues like the rape storyline. OLTL had an awesome cast around this time. They had great villains in this era too, like Todd, Dorian, crazy Alex Olanov (early 90's) and the pre-rape Marty.
@CamilleNadia Soap Opera Digest gave the "Powell is the rapist" storyline the "most shocking plot twist of the year" award for 1994. I still have the issue.
I don't think Powell was ever diagnosed with DID, but the Lords are not exactly known for thier sanity.
Viki's got 6 alters, Jess has 2. Todd's been hallucinating for years, it used to be versions of himself and now it's Irene. Starr heard voices in 2004. Victor Sr was pretty sick (look at what he did to Viki), and Victor Jr had his fair share of problems. Jack's gone off the rails this past year from aggressive behavior to serious denial.
They just don't put shows together like this anymore. There'll never be another 93-94 Roger Howarth. Though this particular scene he's in wasn't set up as well...the music and SM's over-the-top performance threatened to make it really campy, but RH was so good and believable that it didn't matter. Nothing could deter him back then.
Learning that POWELL was the hospital rapist was truly one of the most shocking things on daytime. I never expected it, and yet it made perfect sense. He was tortured with guilt over what he'd done to Marty (and he nearly snapped then, too) and infuriated at the way Todd was being forgiven when he'd shown no remorse for what HE'D done and he finally snapped.
