The mosquito distracted me. But I'm asking you guys, my friends:

1. In your videos and comments are you conscious and/or purposely conscious of the impression you are trying/intending to make...?

2. Do you edit yourself for the purpose of appealing to a specific "audience"?

3. And are there YouTubers who you have gotten to know and then stopped watching and subscribing to after the honeymoon period wore off?

Just wondering....

  • Oh Michael, we're not that nice.

  • Well, Van, what makes you think that when I said "nice ladies" I was referring to you? You get grouped in with Bob and Marc: you're sort of all ladies, but NICE? Hmmm... Now those sisters from Canada, THEY'RE nice... (I lerv you, Lady)

  • I thought that this would be interesting to you. I am in a social psychology class at the community college I am attending and this video is part of an assignment I am doing. Just proves your point about how many people could be watching you.

  • read fucking goffman

  • Impression-wise, I am keen not to look like an idiot (which is a shame really, because being an idiot can be a lot of fun). I'm not sure who my audience is so it would be difficult to play to them. For me, familiarity more often breeds affection than contempt, at least with friends. I haven't unsubscribed to anyone, but there are people I don't watch as frequently. You, incidentally, do not fall into that category—I just haven't been around YouTube much.

  • This to me is about the many masks we all wear everyday, out in the world. In a video we can only choose one mask, though our audience has many different members. Well, my guess is here we'll often have on the wrong mask. I'm off to read about the risks ... Thanks.

  • Interesting topic. It's something i've thought about myself.

I've just found the article online, so i'm going to read it at my leisure.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction :)

  • 1. Yes 2.Yes 3.Yes

Apparently, Tom Hanks has his own MySpace page!

  • oh ps i ment to tell you you talk so damn well you should be a writer.i think thats what i mean. oh well love always, me BOB

  • There ya' go. I guess I'm a "nice lady" who watches you, or not. :) I really enjoy your blogs because you do seem to be presenting your "real" self. I find you more interesting as I learn more about you. Thanks for a great year. Lauren

  • I am just me when I make a video - nothing but me. What you see is what you get.

You are not an asshole, I like you.

Now, for the important question, where is Lulu?

    Joanie

  • I used to comment on nearly every video I watched - assumed it was just good manners - comments were geared toward the poster, not to other viewers. But I realized this was not a one-on-one conversation, so I've adjusted my comments for more of a group discussion. And I comment much less often.

I've only un-subbed once when the poster suddenly started being extremely offensive.
