Long before the appearance of comedians like Jimmy Santos who speak crooked English in a funny way there was one Pablo Virtuoso who did it first.
His tandem with Dencio Padilla was a constant fixture in almost all FPJ movies from the 60's to the 70's. They provide the comic relief in the otherwise tense environments of action films.
Pablo was so funny that his mere appearance on the screen would elicit laughter from the audience.
It was said that even Da King oftentimes couldn't help bursting into laughter in those comic scenes with Pablo that they would re-shoot because FPJ couldn't concentrate.
He capitalized on his being cross-eyed and his ability to deliver ad-lib in crooked English.
He began his movie career in the late 40's as a comedian mostly for LVN Pictures.
Pablo had a few starring roles with Dencio Padilla as his sidekick.
He was a music professor and one time musical scorer in some films.
Dencio Padilla first appeared in FPJ movies as "contravida" and later graduated as his sidekick. With the coming of Pablo Virtuoso their tandem became complete and then with the untimely death of Pablo in the 80's he returned to his role as a single sidekick of Da King, tagging along as the ally and friend, until his demise in 1997.
Dencio Valdivia, otherwise known as Dencio Padilla or Tata Dens, was born on September 2, 1928 in Nagcarlan, Laguna. He was married to Catalina Dominguez with 8 children. One of his sons became famous in showbiz as the comedian Dennis Padilla.
He was known for his Batangueño accent when speaking and his trademark "balisong" was so large that it resembles more a samurai than a "batangas knife".
Dencio also appeared in a starring role in the well known illustrated komiks novel "Boogie".
He won the 1991 Film Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "Kahit Konting Pagtingin"
Pablo Virtuoso and Dencio Padilla were both good singers and guitarist on and off the screen.
An FPJ movie was incomplete without this dynamic tandem.
They were: THE GREAT SIDEKICKS of Da King.

Thanks for the memories, naging kapitbahay namin sa proj. 3 QC si Mang Pablo noong early 70's at nakakalaro ko pa noon sa basketball yong anak nya..iba ang breed ng mga komedyante noon, malinis magpatawa dahil walang mga green jokes at magagaling sa adlib
