This first portion of the video contains an introductory promotional movie for Squaresoft and Sony, and jumps into an interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi, Producer of the now-legendary game Final Fantasy VII. The interview focuses on the technological capabilities of the Sony Playstation and how the Square team, by then riding an unprecedented wave of popularity, utilized the capabilities to produce a Final Fantasy larger in scope than any of the six that game previously. The interview has English voiceover translation and is liberally cut with game footage.

About the video as a whole: This is a digital copy of a VHS video sent to members of the Playstation Underground in mid-1997, around the time of the Final Fantasy VII release. The video is primarily a promotion for Sony, who at the time was still not a dominant console gaming force; the purpose of this video was to promote Squaresoft's PSX games and explain why Square made the jump from Nintendo to Sony. Allegedly, there are not many of these tapes in existence, with only 1500 copies created [citation needed]. I got my copy in 1998 or so, and no, I will not sell it to you. :)

  • Hah, I'm looking at my Collector's Video covered in dust. Wonder if it'd fetch a price on Ebay.

  • @Somaed Not last we checked, ha.

  • Are you MeEatBrains?

  • @badknite1 We are legion. We are all, and we are one.

Specific to your question, I'm not sure what you mean, but no, we are not MeEatBrains.

  • There's no sound in the left channel

  • Yeah, sorry about that. It was a twelve year old VHS tape being digitized from a seventeen year old mono VHS player. Got everything out of it I could.

  • Hironobu is truly the best. He cared more about the story rather than the action, which is a smart move. I wish he would return to Sqaure and that it wouldn't be Square Enix. Enix shouldn't get any credit for something they do not own and something that is truly great. IN my opinion, FF7 was amazing but it was abit overrated.

  • @DuncanDunn yea, alot of people call it THE GAME, sure it was great, but seriously, its not like the FF series is one game.

  • Anybody know the name of the song at the beginning?

  • This is a great video i had this video on VHS when I was 7 years old

  • It's easily fixed. Anyway, i just wanted to point that out. It's not a big deal. Either way, thanks for uploading it.
