you can rent a mini excavator for about $400 a weekend. your a dumbass for digging with a shovel.

While you are waiting for the digger to arrive, a temporary measure would be to line the hole with EDPM, fit edging slabs and a refrigerator for survival rations and beer. You could then fill it with water and scantily-clad young ladies. When the apocalypse comes, you will have lots of lady-friends. Only those who have helped with the project can share the re-population of the world. (But as you are a nice sort of bloke, you could let the others in as well) but only if they ask nicely)

I understand where you're coming from. I'm using all local labor and the "good ole boy" system to find less expensive help. These guys are generally interested in the project and are doing it as a side hobby/job. You CAN'T really push these guys.Keep your head up and don't lose hope on this guy. Just when I start to lose hope on these guys they come through! Good luck and keep me posted on progress, bro!

Great idea and i know how back breaking that work is, rent a bob cat dude.

Look for a used pool inner to put up on top of the structure before back fill. Also add in drain tile around the floor on the edge and use a simple sump pump. You will be glad you did.
