Same as the previous round 6A tests except I swapped around the amp/volts meters and replaced the centech amperage meter with a Radioshack meter that can read milliamps.

Meter Arrangement from Left to Right to Bottom:
Air Flow Velocity in Feet Per Minute (Blue Extech)
Noise Level in dbA (Grey ART)
Voltage in Volts (Red Centech)
Current in Milliamps (Grey/black Radioshack)
Speed of Fan in Hz (Grey Mastech) RPM = Hz x 30
Approximate Speed (Bottom Scythe Display) +- 50RPM reads a little high

Starting in on a much larger round of tests, this time with almost all new testing equipment that should be a big improvement over my previous work. Mainly, my old anemometer made noise and it also seemed to interact and create odd results with some fans. I've switched that out to an Extech Hotwire anemometer which has no vane, I've also switched over to an American Recording Technologies A-weighted sound level meter which is much more matching of the human ear's perception of noise level. Finally I've switched to a Swiftech MCR120 for a wider and lower air pressure drop. In addition I've added back in the Scythe meter for approximate RPM +-50RPM or so, and using my old Mastech meter for monitoring Hz on the RPM wire for a more exact RPM (Hz x 30 =RPM).

Anyhow, that's it, planning to do a bigger round this time, but in smaller 6-10 fans at a time.

Testing Notes:
-Air Flow: Extech Heavy Duty Hot Wire, permanently fixed to outlet chamber 3.66" ID port. (Good down to 40 FPM) CFM is calculated later using port area.
-Noise Level by American Recording Technology A-weighted meter (Good down to about 32dbA). Meter placed 6" away from fan as shown. Previous testing shows results were very similar to 12" A weighting from Zoom recorder.
-Chamber is 21" Long 8" ID Heavy Walled PVC, lined with egg crate to minimize chamber air flow noise.
-Flow Spreader in Chamber is made from 34" ea 4" x 1"ID tubes
-Template face and outlet port is made from 3/4" 10ply plywood.
Radiator is a new Swiftech MCR120 QP radiator, mounted with 1/8" Thick foam on both sides, filled with water and connected using BP swivel 90s.
-Voltage measured using Centech multimeters.
-Milliamps measured using the Radioshack multimeter
-Audio Recorded using Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, 44K, .Wav format with windscreen. Manual level 100, low cut on. Zoom microphone tip is 12" from fan hub.
-Video via Canon T2I with Tokina 12-24

Combined audio/video in Sony Vegas, exported to 8MBS HD .wmv video prior to uploading to Youtube.

  • interesting how far less obnoxious this one sounds compared to the kaze 3000. or maybe it's because of the different recording setup?

  • Hey, they sound bearable, pretty quiet for a performance fan.

  • I have 3 of these, swaped for treibwerk cause i hate this high pitch noise they make.

    Tried with PWM controller or simple rehostat. PWN is worst but still harrassing for me.
