To celebrate the launch of critically acclaimed video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Square Enix has commissioned filmmaker Rob Spence aka Eyeborg (a self proclaimed cyborg who lost an eye replaced it with a wireless video camera) to investigate prosthetics, cybernetics and human augmentation. How far are we from the future presented to us in Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

Adam Jensen is the main character of the recently published action role-playing game Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Adam comes in 2027 when a serious attack nearly killed. Only through the augmentation of his body with biomechanical implants and prostheses could be saving lives. Through this engagement, Adam Jensen can now run faster, jump higher, throw farther and see better. Everything is fiction? How far removed from today's technology?

This question goes to the filmmaker Rob Spence in his short film "Deus Ex: The Documentary Eyeborg" after. He calls himself "Eyeborg" because after he lost an eye, he let it be replaced by a prosthesis with a video camera - he can see in that eye but nothing but that film. Now he makes his way around the globe to the "cyborg" to meet today's and to determine how far the technology is actually today already - you'll be surprised.

  • I wish I could get cybernetic arms that are stronger than my weak little things. I have low muscle tone and poor hand-eye coordination due to a neurological disorder. I hope that in the future they can make stronger, all around better arms that link up to my brain and fix the root of the problem. It would be awesome. And I hope they make legs that enable people to walk when they couldn't before. That would be amazing.

  • i love it

  • I just got a commercial in the middle of this video... Warning for a commercial break update...

  • What annoys me is that alot of this technology is finding itself in military but not civilian applications.

  • David Jonsson, they cannot stop him, they cannot stop the future.

  • Wow, I didn't beleive that the technologie is as far as it is now. Epic!
