Only Satyajit Ray could capture the poignancy and the entire jest of the stories by the great write Munshi Premchand. A great writer AND a great filmmaker. the best combination.

i luv the satire in the movie. it was indeed intelligent portrayl of the indian fuedal lords prevalent at that time. It showed the abject apathy of the fuedal lords towards the people and land which was theirs and they were the protectors of it but they chose to neglect it and then the britsh marauded India and pompously ridiculed everything Indian. they were responsible for our misery. I luv Ray's marvelous portrayal

On the other hand, he shouldn't he extensively covering in his movies the hedonistic corruption of INDIANS, which then justifies to some extent the subsequent actions of the East India Company.........In that sense he is being a Gunga Din of the worst sort......and repeating subliminally the lie of the East India company and the subsequent British Raj which came after it.......that is the British were here to civilize, and modernize...as in Afghanistan, and Iraq now.

it has some great actors with good narrative in the background by Amitabh Amitabh has very good voice. you can close your eyes and watch this narrative style.

Try some other films mostly it willbe boring

it has a very supreme story telling quality

for example this one

the mughal era in India is shown with very intricate detail

keeping in mind the type of language spoken during that time in India
