That is in place to protect the few seniors that are not treated well by their families. Watching a dementia patient lose their entire life savings by giving it away and watching them do harm to themselves bit by bit is very sad and scary. The system gives them their freedom or rights to do this. There is something very wrong with the system. This especially the case for seniors with alcohol dementia, Alzheimer & frontal lobe damage mixed in from falling repeatedly on their head.

The family must then watch their loved one basically lose all their finances and injure themselves over and over. It is so sad and frustrating to witness. This happens because we wouldn't want someone who can do some basic math 1+1=2 but fails on so many levels of sensible thinking to take away their rights to do harm to themselves and others. That is in place to a select few seniors that are not treated well by their family. None of it makes sense anymore to me anymore.

  • I really believe that doctors don't have the time and/or take the time to really diagnose dementias properly. The family is left with the arduous task of dealing with a patient/family member who is unpredictable and difficult to deal with. The family has no power to get the patient proper care. The so-called professionals (in come cases) deem the patient capable of making their own decisions when it is clear to everyone that the decisions they make are insane at best.

  • Rare my ass.
