Richard, Me, (4 and 5 years old, best guess) Mom, Grandma, and Tommy at the Memphis Zoo and Botanical Garden in 1965. Please remember the times when viewing this video. The big cat facility at the Memphis Zoo is vastly improved. The only animals in the old big cat house are people. It's now a cafeteria. I understand that many are opposed to animals in captivity under any circumstances. I lean that way for my own part. However, the current cat country follows the San Diego example on a smaller scale and attempts a natural environment simulation. There is some running room. I'm not advocating or defending captive animal display. Rather, I'd prefer not to be depressed.

  • This is how I remember the zoo as a child. Love the song. What is it?

  • Love this! Thank you!

  • I visited the Memphis Zoo for the first time about a year or two after this. Things certainly have changed for the better there and at most zoos. It's still kind of neat to see how it was back then just as a reminder of how far it's come.
