When the NYBFS building on 22nd and Broadway in NYC was shut down, they had to conserve the facade, even tho a grocery store took its place.

I have an old shellac disk where, in addition to the birds chirping at the start, there are 2 stretches of a choir. It sounds like monks had walked in, in procession, and began solemnly singing.

Such a beautiful piece of Music. Brings a tear to my eye. I first heard it on CD played by Reginald Dixon on the Tower WurliTzer Organ. It reminds me literally of being in a church yard or a monestry garden. Magical!

Nice! Love to hear Ketelbey's other "In a..." pieces;
In A Persian Market, In a Chinese Temple Garden...
I recall the Reginald Foorte recordings.

Had a giggle at your comment, but have you noticed that you omitted two "P's" from eleventhdr's "chirppping"?
Agree that this is a lovely old song, and I thank Aaron1912 for sharing it.

Simply elegant!

Albert Ketelbey, actually.
It was such a shame the beautiful Stoll Theatre was demolished, as you can see from the pics, it was just sheer elegance. A Palace. Replaced by an ugly 'box' shaped office block, to ugly '50's - '70's modernist standards. If ever you are walking down 'Kingsway' in London, lookout for the Peacock Theatre. This - and the "monstrosity" above it - is what replaced the fine Stoll Theatre. It is criminal !!!!

P.S. Does anyone know whether the Organ was saved?
