Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música

Conducted by Jorma Panula

Rogier van Otterloo: Soldaat van Oranje

Recorded in Sala Suggia at Casa da Música, 1 July 2011

Commentary by Theo Ellegiers (viola) and Eddy Tauber (horn)

English translation of commentary:
Dutch culture reaches around the world, and here in Porto we have the privilege to perform in Casa da Música, a concert hall designed by Rem Koolhaas. We watch with great alarm the threats facing Dutch orchestras, and on behalf of Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música we add our voice from Portugal to those of the orchestras affected.
The great conducting teacher Jorma Panula is this week in Porto leading a masterclass for young conductors, and he has kindly joined us in recording Soldier of Orange. It is crucial that we work together to protect the future for all musicians of whichever generation and from whatever country.
