Academia Sanchez-Casal has 6 basic footwork pattern drills for integrating baseline, transition and net play. Here are the first two: a) the X drill which works the player behind and inside the baseline, b) a V drill which works a player with 2 deep balls behind the baseline and then a third but short ball on the same side as the second ball which works as an approach shot. The fourth shot works the player back on the same side, the fifth shot works the student laterally behind the baseline and the sixth shot is short on the same side of the fifth. Short balls should be fed on the same side as the preceeding deep ball since you want to encourage forward (only) movement.

  • Hi, any idea what life is like at a spanish tennis academy? Is there a strong emphasis on fitness, and what kind of emphasis? Are there many drills of just dry hitting. What kind of fitness do they do? Thank you so much!

  • This is one of the classic drills that he does. He presented it previously at the USPTA conference,

    thanks for posting
