part of the bukit lawang orang utangs is born and raised wild.. some are from the sanctuary set free. in 2003 there was a massive flood in bukit lawang destroying half the village. most orangs in the sancturay were set free, because there were no other options.. these orang utangs you can find on the forest floor and do contact people

She was intelligent to know that she was heavily outnumbered. Also, she knew that those people wouldn't be a real threat to the wee baby. She reacted, then wanted to cool down the anxious humans with an expressive cuddle to let them all know that she didn't mean any harm. I love primates. They are so fascinating to observe and study. You folks were lucky to encounter a wild Mom and live to tell about it. Not to mention, get a cuddle from a remarkable species. You were all blessed!
