A first drive around the neighborhood in my nearly completed electric car. This is a 96V ElectroAuto VoltsRabbit kit with 16 6V batteries. Everyone agreed it was awesome.. Insert "EV Grin" here..

  • hey! I have a few questions

    1. how did you deal with the brakes and the vacuum servo?

    2. how much do you expect the batteries to last? as a normal one or they have a shorter life?

    3. can you describe the autonomy and other data?

    4. any particular problem that you found when converting the VW?

    thanks

  • @randelj

1)The conversion is based on a kit from ElectroAuto which provides a 12V vacuum pump and reservoir that is connected to the stock power brake booster. I replaced the vacuum pump control switch that came with the kit with a newer one that could be adjusted.

2)the Lead/Acid batteries should last about 3 years,

    3) Not very autonomous, I have an outdated blog at cactus-patch.blogspot.com

    4) Right side motor mount needed fabrication.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

  • wowow pretty cool how much cost you to convert this car in a electric car

  • @MrAadef1 Wow sorry I haven't checked the comments in a while. It cost about $12K for the kit and batteries not including the cost of the original car.

  • this will be the future of all cars..my car will be the same soon..i only have dificultyes finding batteryes..wish u all the best mate

  • Thanks.. All the best to you.. I used my local Interstate dealer for the batteries.. I thought they were pretty fair on price.

  • Good for you-- by the time your batteries need to be replaced, you'll likely have a few options available, at lower cost, such as lithium iron phosphate, lithium polymer or something else that's not even available yet, such as lithium air batteries or batteries using carbon nanotubes or graphene to increase the energy density. I suspect that soon, a battery pack will be able 2 give us 100's of miles range between charges, & will only take a few minutes 2 recharge. See my BMW conversion!

  • There is so much conversion online now. Thanks for the next generation. Antoine

  • thank you for your answer! keep enjoying your electric car!!
