reality of Samurai X-Yumi is from Yoshiwara 2(Eng.sub)

Yumi story-2 Yoshiwara is a slum of trafficking of human beings.
Women/men are sold there so that help their family suffering from heavy poverty and hunger.

But Yoshiwara(Yumi-neisan) is defferent to Call Girl.
Call Girl is illegal, while Yoshiwara had been legalized as a public place of ill amusement , although it had been consisted of sacrifice of human rights.
It opened from Edo Shogunate era 1617.

Rurouni Kenshin is a treasury of history and mystery.

Kenshin Himura(Shinta) has been sold as a slave/worker because his family caught a cholera and passed away at the first scene of OVA trust/betrayal.

Miss Yumi Komagata(Shishio Makoto's partner) is also one of key person to talk Meiji era.
She had to worke Yoshiwara and became a top rank worker ― Oiran (花魁/おいらん）.

Yoshiwara was in Tokyo near Asakura, hundreds of ill-houses has been gathered. Worker had to locate there, then escaping was not admitted unless they finished to pay back their debts.

But to retire from ill-work was not easy because the all expense of gorgeous Kimono and cost of living were fallen on worker's loan.

So it is irony that the higher the women's rank become up to , the lower the chance to run away.

Yumi-neisan also tells about "Maria Luz Ship Incident"　in only manga vol.17.

It　happend in 1872 historically.
Yoshiwara-this inferior convention was not be corrected even feudal society turned into democratic world(by Kenshin's effort), besides if Yoshiwara worker were no good for job any more , they were thrown away like garbage in Jokanji(Jokan-temple).

So overseas visitors made a complain and asked New Government to take certain responsibilities for Yoshiwara .
New Government replied,
"Yoshiwara is just a stockyard and the women/men in there are not human but animal(domestic animal)".

New Government's view of Yoshiwara caused a great political scandal.(and Yumi-neisan seems to join anti new government groups -Shishio's group.)

But the time of putting a law into force of prohibition of prostitution had to be waited until Apr., 1st on 1957.

In Jokanji[浄閑寺/じょうかんじ] over 20,000 of Yoshiwara person's bones are laid in nameless graves and it has still been called "throw-away-temple"(投げ込み寺/なげこみでら，nage-komi-dera).

Soto(outside)-Hachi(8)-Monji(letter)-Walking-Style (外八文字/そとはちもんじ).
