517 raw video - Walking past NTU Hospital

On May 17, 2009, *hundreds of thousands* of people gathered in Taipei, Taiwan to protest against Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT, 中國國民黨) president Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and his pro-China policies which will not only *not* help Taiwan's economy -- they will also put the nation's sovereignty down the toilet. Protest organizers estimate that a crowd of about 600,000 participated in the four-route march which led to the rally on Ketagalan Blvd.

But, before it was over, Taipei mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) made the claim that only 40,000 people were in attendance:

I was there at the protest, and I can attest to the fact that his claim is a baldfaced lie. I probably *bumped into* 40,000 people!

To quickly dispense with Hau's fabricated figure, take a look at this video I shot walking north on Zhongshan S. Rd. (中山南路) past National Taiwan University Hospital. I stop at the corner of Changde St. (常德街) and look west towards Gongyuan Road (公園路), then turn and look southward on Zhongshan S. Rd. towards Jingfu Gate (景福門). Both Zhongshan Rd. and Changde St. are *packed* with people.

The actual rally was a couple hundred meters down the road and around the corner. Ketagalan Blvd. was packed with people as was Zhongshan S. Rd. on the south side of Jingfu Gate.

Only 40,000, my ass!

  • It's good to see the Taiwanese stand up for themselves :)

  • 過去台北藍綠的大遊行我都有去看 昨天是我看過人最多一次 比反反分裂法或是'一百萬人'的紅衫軍多很多
