The Vocal Range of Benjamin Kowalewicz: (C2-)D2-A5

Benjamin Kowalewicz is the vocalist of the Canadian rock band Billy Talent. He utilizes a VERY screamy head voice register (from about E♭5 and on, prior to that is his mixed voice, note the huge timbre shift from the Navy Song D5 and his later highs) to hit his highest notes. Much like Geddy Lee, low notes are scarce in Billy Talent and Pezz songs, however, he almost always speaks down into the 2nd octave in interviews!

@AustinInAMinor It's hard to describe how to perform a certain technique through text... Your best option would honestly be to learn operatic technique, since you said you're seeing a vocal teacher. Even if you don't want to sing opera, you'll develop breath support, learn to sing through your passagio points, and learn to sing without straining. From there, you can apply that knowledge to more extreme vocal styles. This kind of screaming takes a developed upper register.

@AustinInAMinor I sing as well, and I can imitate his screaming style pretty accurately. The register Ben uses for his screaming is head voice, albeit the most screamy variation of it I've heard. It's not a non-modal scream like death metal or metalcore vocalists, as it's connected to his chest register. It's MUCH more difficult to perform head voice screaming at that pitch than it is to do it in a typical screaming register/technique. Good luck!
