The cruel combat between celestial and earthly love into Maddalena's soul is emotionally fully expressed through Maria Cristina's beautifull voice ..

I feel that my words, however praiseworthy, ultimately fail to deliver justice to this incredible piece. It is purely sublime, and entirely faithful to its noble subject matter. This is without a doubt my favourite work by Caldara, and its inspirational qualities can only be experienced by listening...my commentary fails to express its power more than one's own ears can understand.
