Looks like the "Hex" part is still attached to the base, should be as simple as putting a socket on it and pulling it out? (185K on mine.)

@4Tinkering rapomnam is right. he's the guy helping me pull and teardown the engine in my other videos. the valley of these engines are meant to be open to house the hpop, and turbo. the lifters and push rods are covered and contained inside the block casting. the lifters have retainers on the tops of them and those retainers can only be unbolted with the head removed. don't usually hear of valvetrain problems on these motors though. given statistics, i'd bet injectors.

@4Tinkering Yeah, the head has to come off to get to the lifters if I remember correctly.

ccg711: Does that mean I need to get gaskets too?
Ksucharles1979 5 months ago
@Ksucharles1979 shouldn't need to. the valve cover gaskets are hard plastic with rubber on each side, so they are reusable. better hope they are, some places ask $75 a piece for them since they have their own electrical connector for the GP's and injectors.

I have a 1996 7.3L Powerstroke. Any videos on glow plug replacement?

@Ksucharles1979 Unfortunately not. pretty easy, yank your intercooler pipes, pull the valve covers and change them like spark plugs (pull wire, unscrew, replace, tighten, refasten wire). valve cover gaskets are reusable. some of the valve cover bolts may suck to get to, and you'll need a socket with a thin enough wall to get the GP's, My craftsman sockets worked fine though. Go with motorcraft plugs, autolite plugs have had some bad history with the tips coming off (from what i've heard).

@LoneSoldierDS no problem, the lower part was intact and came right out with a socket.
