On January 6, 2008, there was a 'stand-off' between five patrol boats from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps [IRGC] and three U.S. Navy warships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Both sides released video of the encounter. The video released by the American military was predictably full of menace and included a sinister voice, which came over the radio and threatened the U.S. vessels: "I am coming to you. You will explode in a couple of minutes."

The Iranian video was slightly more benign and showed a member of the IRGC naval patrol communicating over the radio with the U.S. warships. However, the voice of this radio operator sounds nothing like the voice that issued the threat in the American video, and it has since been speculated that the 'threatening' transmission might possibly originated from another ship in the region. But if it wasn't the Iranians, then who was it? Who would have issued this threat in the midst of a potentially dangerous encounter? And why?

  • Hi Rictof,

Thanks for commenting with such an interesting theory. Given that you're one of the people who's served on those boats in the Gulf, I guess you have the inside track! However, if it was someone on the US ship "going nuts", then it was a risky thing to do (what with Bush and the neocons desperate to strike Iran at the slightest provocation). Anyway, I hope you're back home safe with your family now.

  • its called fake audio transmission which was done by usa pretending to be iranian saying were coming to bomb you....just to fool you sheep watching the video while on the news that IRAN was threating them, when actually USA is on their waters...think about it....How would the US government and US citizens react if Iranians had their boats in the harbor of new york....exactly....mind your own fuckin buisness!

  • The US Version doesnt sound like an Iranian and no offense but it sounds like a young misfit american soldier trying to mimic an Iranian.

  • I dont see how those navy boats are even a threat, they arent even armed.

  • I agree. The incident stank like sh*t from the very beginning.
