Nice little spot from the same CFTO Nightbeat News broadcast as below (April 23, 1988). Interesting that the pilots talks about being a systems manager rather than a pilot. Oh, and smoking on planes? It probably seemed like a good idea at the time...

  • @simon726 you know Robert Bockstael from the 90's series North of 60 was playing the role of the older pilot in that Mayday episode.

  • @Kenster1025 well yes. I've seen that episode on the telly. There was a TV movie based on that experience.

That movie is called "Falling From the Sky: Flight 174". I've seen that movie on TV a couple years back and it's quite interesting.

  • @simon726 Have you seen the episode of "Maday" when the pilots landed the Air Canada 767 like a glider on a drag strip, it was the Gimli Glider, I always thought it was cool.

  • That's what you call a "PR coup" for Canadian Airlines!

  • I think I flew from YYZ to YYC on that one. I miss Canadian. It was always my choice to fly on back in the day.

  • Thesedays, Smoking on planes are banned thanks to the international regulations governing air travel.

most of the 767 that Canadian Airlines (which has since merged with Air Canada) flew with after the airline has merged with Air Canada (which used to have the 767s) - has since been retired.
