Jim showing you how to cut a big cherry tree. Notice the poles he layed out to give the tree a even drop and it also lets you cut the logs out with it up from the ground.
Cherry is known to split. This was a number 2 veneer it had a little ring gum it brought 3.50 per ft.

Great job by a master woodsman. Sometimes we keep those crotches and saw them out to make "flame crotch" boards that some of the high end fabricators guys use for panels in furniture. They will pay real good money for them if they are dried flat and don't have bark seams or cracks. The mill will dock you for double heart sometimes down here and we just keep them whole and saw them out on a band sawmill. Those short pieces can be a pain in the neck for the sawyer, but it can be done. Thanks!
