  • Yeah, I know. But it makes more sense to say you can "speak" or "understand" Japanese. o-o

  • because 'dekiru' means you have the ability to do something. 'nihongo ga dekiru' = can do japanese. or 'nihongo de hanasu koto ga dekiru'
