During the fall of last year, I decided to make my own G1 Skyfire. I always wanted the Skyfire figure, but it wasn't for sale and most probably never will be. I bought a Classics Jetfire and kitbashed it to Skyfire. Since this was and still is my first kitbash, it took quite a while to finish the job.

The changes made:

backpack:

- make custom bolts & screws

- cutting gaps in the jet boosters to make the wings transform

- cutting carriers in the jet boosters for the custom bolts

- splitting and drilling the center piece of the jet boosters

- assemble the jet boosters to create a one piece backpack

- remove the clicking mechanism of the wings

- mount the wings into the backpack

- unite the jet boosters using Milliput putty (a type of hobby clay)

- carve details into the putty

- sculpt wing holders

- sculpt blue front spoiler of the jetpack-engine

- sculpt small wings on the jetpack-engine

- create mounter for the back pack

- paint job

head

- sculpt/connect the antennas to the center using putty

- paint job

arms

- mid-arms triangles on the front and back sculpted using putty

- paint job

back

- cut off the wings

- closed the wing gaps using putty

- exhaust holders made using putty

- cut off the center of the rear back plate

- paint job

chest

- create the exhaust pieces on the left and right side of his cockpit

- carved the details in the exhaust pieces

- shortened the cockpit and resculpted the cockpit nose using putty

- paint job

hips

- hip parts created using putty

- paint job

legs

- boxy legs sculpted using putty

- outer leg pads sculpted

- paint job

feet

- shortened

- resculpted the ends

- carved details

- paint job

  • hey friend i need your help the helment of my classic jetire the little part next to the helment is broken i try to join but always broken how can i repait it please help

  • Use plastic modeling glue. It depends on how fragile the part is. If it's the antenna, it will break over and over again, no matter how many times you glue.

  • Seekerjet, I was born in '79 and starting getting TFs shortly there after. I remeber getting a Sky/Jet-Fire that was either a Robotech toy or a direct rip of the robotech one. It transformed exactly the same and could do the whole half jet, half bot version. Know what toy I'm talking about?

  • It's the VF-1 Valkyrie from Robotech, also used for the Jetfire toy. It's not a "direct rip" because it was the exact same factory that made it for both Transformers and Robotech. Just different patents/cartoons.

  • that's amazingly kick ass but i wouldn't do it to mine

  • Thanks. You could give it a try.

  • what's the music...

well u did made Jetfire like the Zero Type Gundam in Gundam Wing(Piloted by Heero Yuui)

  • very cool!

  • Nope. It was Jetfire, based on the VF-1 Valkyrie Robotech figure. They had to redesign the figure for the cartoon show, so they totally redesigned him and renamed him to Skyfire for the show. That Skyfire figure was never produced, so I had to modify a Classics Jetfire figure to look like Skyfire.

  • Wasn't there a Skyfire toy produced from Hasbro back in the 80's?
