  • I'm not sure what you mean by "American", sigo3453. The United States is not populated by "Americans", it is populated by people. Not to mention a great number of New York immigrants were from Scotland. No one took anything from your glittering racial memory. This tune is sung around the world every year, not just in the United States. Shut up and tak a cup o' kindness.

  • every year and christmas and new year we watch 'it's a wonderful life' and at the end of the film it has this song :) and its utterly beautiful. of course it has the original version :). my whole family sing along to it :) new year is such a sad but happy time!

  • welcome 2012 enjoy while it lasts... happy new years everyone!

  • Wow just so all you people know most people in the united states know that we sing this song at new years but most of us dont know the words . So stop saying we try to make.l stuff are own and if we do whats so bad about that

  • first to lead to the 2012 festival, come on, lets celebrate this wonderful year! (:

  • @117ty On a pleasant note, this was never written by Robert Burns (aka Rabbie as some call him).

I was at a wedding reception in Portree the Isle of Skye, The Scottish Highlands, at the end of last May; we where singing this at that time.

  • This is a beautiful song but in my opinion those lyrics kind of missed the point.

  • @aquamarinegalxxx Yea its a good time but you wont know this I dont think but Rabbie Burns (robert's nickname) in Scotland, never wrote it for new year, no one really knows why he wrote it I dont think.

But they sing it at weddings at the end, I was up in the highlands for an extended families wedding, we sang it at the end of the ceilidh, he's scotlands best poet!

  • lovely version of this song:-)

  • americans didnt try and 'take it' . the original song was written by robert burns who is scottish, therefore in scots language. there is a version which has been translated into english a bit more. but there are quite a lot of versions which ISNT a bad thing! its sang all over the world at new year, not just scotland or america! .. a love auld lang syne, never gets old. robert burns, you legend.

  • @RaffiRevolver yeah - I'm sure NYC rave it up a wee bit mair than this!

  • shut up you progressive moron
