  • When playing 78's on modern stereo equipment, a GREAT deal of surface noise can be reduced by playing the record monaurally. This cancels all of the noise that is from vertical movement. This can be accomplished simply with a pair of Y-connectors from Radio Shack, creating something that looks like an "X". Top of the "X" is the input; the bottom the output. A little thought process goes into this, but you will be amazed at the difference. You'll stand and salute the bugle calls!

  • I have a version of this in an album of old cylinders and Berliners. The announcer and the trumpeter (Emil Cassi?) set up the recording equipment in the cemetary at San Juan Hill. It did NOT, however, raise the dead. they stayed in their graves. I somehow felt that the calls could have restored them to LIFE ! Plenty of surface noise on the cylinder.

  • Good sound quality for a recording 112 years old!

  • Trumpeter Emil Cassi, the announcer and performer heard here, also recoreded this on cylinder.
