So here is what this track sounds like with a G phrygian solo over it. I took robowobo's advice and threw in some harmonic minor stuff along with some G dorian and some C minor pent but for the most part stayed within the mode. Lot of tapping and diatonic stepwise motion. Hopefully it will give some insight into how to approach a progression such as this (which is found in a lot of prog tunes). Thanks for the awesome backing track!!

Gear:

- Crappy Epiphone SG Special
- Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1X12
- Digitech GNX4 Multieffects Pedal (Custom Setting; Derivative of the "Solo" setting in the factory presets).

  • technical aspect is awesome. your playing is clean, and I can hear pretty much every note.

now try and get some melody together cause frankly, it sounds like crap.

  • this is pretty good, especially the fast parts, but it got dry at some points

  • what is that music in the back ? doesn't fit at all ... pity, but tech pretty well that is 4 sure

  • awesome man you play better than me! xD

  • @ofuckitstravis legit and your playing charvels <3

  • Nice playing for technique, but I disagree with the stickers!

  • The SG is so special it looks like a les paul? I'm liking the dampened notes in your fast sections for the off-beat runs, but I concur with others, melody! ;D

  • Nice technique but no melody.... And it's like you are afraid to move your hand from the frets 10 up to 17....

  • technically pretty sound, but a bit boring :/

  • I agree with MartaineJr. You have skill, but no emotion, feeling, and you don't listen to the music. If you listened, you would notice that more than half of the time you are off beat and off tempo...
