  • Who knew Bob Newhart could be nightmare fuel? That evil grin during the meeting is just diabolical. :-)

  • @sexymama1966 You are correct that cigarette ads on TV were banned as of 12:01 AM 1/2/71 in the US. This was filmed in the middle of 1970 in anticipation of the upcoming ban.

  • @vitoduval They probably had a few Catholics there but Iowa is right in the middle of the Bible Belt which is mostly Protestant - they probably had only so much room for names of churches who "welcome you". There's a typo (maybe deliberate?) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints spelled as "Church of Jesus Christ of LATER Day Saints".

  • @cullmurr Awesome that you met Graham Jarvis (among other roles Charlie Haggers on Mary Hartman, Mary Harman)! The wise decision they made to hire the locals as extras not only brought the town some $ but also have the film its authentic flair!

  • @OldsVistaCruiser Yes, this was Edward Everett Horton's final role; in fact, he died before the movie was released.

  • I did some extra work in Vancouver and met the actor who played Amos Bush. He had just returned from a 30 year cast reunion in the town in which the movie was filmed, Apparently th citizens were all hired as extras so the people you see are just everyday townfolks

  • as of january 1971..no cigarette commercials on television.

  • I remember seeing at the movies with my family....this was hysterical...thanks for posting

  • 06:00 No Catholics in Eagle Rock? RLDS is now the Community of Christ

  • Edward Everett Horton (best known today as the narrator for "Fractured Fairy Tales") in his last role, where Hiram C. Grayson doesn't speak, but he farts toward the end!
