This room has 6 ceiling recess lights which give pretty good lighting to the room. The Nikon Coolpix S8100 did not pick up the lighting and actually made the room look dingier or dark. Also you can hear the camera zooming noise as I zoom some tight shots. The picture quality is good, not great for HD 1080p. All in all very disappointed with my purchase and will be returning the camera for a Canon PowerShot S95. Even though the S95 does not have 1080P I've seen videos where it shows better results in low light. I'll upload another sample video of the same room, same lighting but shot on my old Canon SD900 (that I purchased in 2007) which shows better lighting results than this new Nikon Coolpix S8100.

Here is my full review of the Nikon Coolpix S8100:

  • @bkajanetty It's pretty bad... The auto focus seems to be locked in..

  • As you can see in this video, the Nikon S8100 video is not good in lowlight situations, it is very good with some light, the camera is outstanding in every other situation, auto focus is good and you can remove auto focus sound in video simply changing to simple auto focus, there are many complains regarding noise while shooting video but the camera demands some time to learn its secrets. Canon SX130 is a very good camera , I"ve owned 8 cameras in the past 6 months and the S8100 is my favorite

  • guys m confused between nikon s8100 and canon sx 130IS.m looking for better quality pics .which one works better in lowlight conditions, freezing fast moving objects etc.is canon 130IS better in daylight as compared to nikon s8100?

  • do you think this camera has a good auto focus on video though? meaning is it fast and accurate?

  • @ansuarez9 Thanks! & no you're not late. im still debating & waiting 4taxes to come.also waiting 2c wat they R bringing out in the new year. i saw a nice sony anex camera today and fell in love but havn't looked it up yet. As for the Canon Powershot sx210is. well right now i own the canon powershot sx20 is which is bigger if you look at them both i think the sx210 is a smaller version of what i have so im not really looking at that one. but thanks for your input and your video helped tons!

  • @stephrios1 I know I'm probably responding too late, I was just looking at the S95 and the optical zoom is only 3.8x, compared to this one which has 10x optical zoom, this also has more megapixel 12.1 compared to 10, and the screen resolution is much better too. Also the price of the s95 is much more expensive. If you want better picture quality this one is better, or you should also look at the Canon Powershot SX210IS ($250, 14 optical zoom, 14.1 megapixel)

  • I got this camera a few days ago, I really like it, except for the zoom noise. By the way, my name is Andrés too hahaha

  • is it really that dark?

  • oh man thats horrible that you can hear the motor on the zoom lens. or is it the lens going in and out making that noise?

  • Yeah utterly disqualified because of the zoom motor noise...next.
