' All-optical-processor'. You should look into the integration of semiconducting-nanocrystals, imbedded into photonic crystals. There is possibility of creating universal 'Processors', that are capable of everything from Optical networks ( optical packet switching) to pure number crunching, and Quantum computing...( more on this later)...

The concept of LASER and MASER were already theorised by Einstein 1916 and Rudolf Ladenburg 1920 which was a long time before rosewell etc
and the concept of composite materials has been around since the old greek
