Verse 1: Em C G D Em C D Em C G D Em C Em G Em C D G Em D Em C G D Em C Em

Near Banbridge town, in the county Down,
One morning in July,
Down the boreen came a sweet colleen
And she smiled as she passed me by;
Oh she looked so sweet from her two bare feet
to the crown of her nut brown hair.
Such a winsome elf, that I pinched myself,
to be sure I was really there.

Chorus: G Em C D Em C D Em C G D Em C D Em

And from Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay, and from Galway to Dublin town,
No maid I've seen like the sweet colleen,
that I met in the county Down

Verse 2:
As she onward sped I shook my head
And I gazed with a feeling rare
'And I said,' says I to a passer-by,
'Who's the maid with the nut brown hair?'
He smiled at me, and with pride says he:
'That's the gem of all Ireland's crown,
Young Rosie McCann, from the banks of the Bann
She's the Star of the County Down.'

Chorus:

Verse 3:

At the harvest fair she'll be surely there
so I'll dress in my Sunday clothes,
With my shoes shined bright and my hat just right
win the heart of the nut-brown Rose.
No pipe I'll smoke, no horse I'll yoke
And my plough will rust and brown
Till a smiling bride by my own fireside
Sits the Star of the County Down

  • oh I see now.. Ha ha I was using slang so that's why. Good job. I checked out alot of your stuff yesterday. I like it! I'll try not to use any slang, sorry for the mix up. I wish I could speek your language as well as you can speek mine!

  • I sing n play guitar so no way I'm ripping on you man! Props is like Proper Respect. I never herd this tune before n thought you did great. Seen your finger picking and know when your trying to sing it takes practice to get it right! I actually subscribed to you channel yesterday. Lol I'll unsubscribe if you like

  • Great song! 5*****s all the way! My friend and I have played this tune on guitar and violin for many years but I have never heard the words to it. Thanks for sharing. God Bless. Ray

  • My French is poor but I could understand the gist of it. The pictures and words, and music all helped. It was well put together. Your strum is unmistakable too--is it a French strum? chipswow does the same strum. It is like a laid back skiffle strum.
