  • Hi Larry. I purchased the Paf Joe and Paf Pro, what pickups, just fantastic! I just have one quick question. I never like the sound of neck humbucker on any 24 fret guitars, just too thin (my preference). Is there any humbucker (for the neck position) that will make a 24 fretter sounds like a 22? I hope you know what I mean.

  • @indoshakermaker

It's impossible to make a pickup sound like it's in a different location along the string length, but an Air Zone might be warm enough to be a good choice.

  • @LarryDiMarzio Thanks Larry. yeah, i remember watching a Herman Li video on youtube, he was saying about his signature guitar being a 24 fretter, which had a custom made neck pickup. which he said it was made so that it sounded like his neck pickup on his orginal 22 fretter Ibanez. Not sure if it was your company who made it or other

  • @indoshakermaker

We made the pickups in Herman's signature Ibanez. He was comparing the sound of an Evo neck pickup to his new pickup, which is not the same as a PAF Pro or PAF Joe. Compared to them, an Air Zone could be good to try.

  • Hi.. I have an Ibanez RG 550 EX ( 2002 ) and i have an Evolution in the bridge and im thinking of swapping it for an AT-1 because i want a big fat lead tone and a pickup that can do rock to blues to fusion and doesnt mind doing some good metal .. do u think this is a good idea ?

  • @hisham3000

Yes, as long as you keep in mind that the AT-1 doesn't have quite as much power as the Evo.

  • @LarryDiMarzio Much appreciated Larry!

It might do what you want, although the final sound will also depend a lot upon the type of amp you play.

  • I have a Charvel San Dimas, an alder body maple neck/fretboard combo, with a Floyd. I want a smooth tone, but I want bite and clarity to be there when I need it. I'm thinking an AT-1/LiquiFire set. Do you think this will help me achieve the sound I am looking for?

  • @RGTFanatic

It may have too much bass and mids for the neck position if you intend to use it for chords, but it should be OK if you use it mainly for solos. I think a PAF Pro, Fred or Breed neck model might be etter all around in the neck.
