Learning the Ukulele on YouTube!

After finding myself drawn to ukulele clips over and over I finally decided to get a uke of my own. An atrocious little $40 job on ebay. After a few weeks I was hooked and went out and bought a Flea. Love it!

So this is 2 months total practice and 2 weeks with the Flea.

I figured since I was learning through YouTube clips it would be fitting to show any progress here.

how can you call a pineapple flea atrocious????

Mine is sweet and lovely and versatile. Yes versatile - turn it back to front and start tapping it.

I am never seen without my ukulele drum and have even been known to strike the strings occasionally.

Please take back you comment on it being atrocious the flea doesn't really deserve a reputation like that.

same story. drawn to uke songs for some reason. so after playing guitar for a few years i just picked up my first uke off ebay! can't wait to get it!

did you play guitar or anything else before this?

I have a guitar and took lessons 13 years ago. Learned most of my chords and some basic songs. Never got much better even when about a year ago I tried to learn some stuff off of youtube. Turns out it wasn't the right instrument for me. I love the uke! I am a fair bit better now 2 months later so I will need to post again. Good luck.

welll done mate. Im only one month into uke an have a flea on order : ). Since you know bout twice as many chords as me - im thinkin im on track - an that NICE ta know !!

I've had my uke that I've gotten for about a month and I want to get a better uke sooo bad! you're actually playing the uke that i wanted! im taking this as a sign....

You're doing great. I have a uke that I pick up now and then and always revert to playing "Little Brown Jug" that I learned 55 years ago from Arthur Godfrey on TV. Wish I could be better at it.

I think she confused your eBay uke and your Flea

in the "info" box...

I saw a thread about E chords on UkuleleUnderground.

Some people substitute E7 whenever possible,

others say "just keep practicing 'till you get it",

which is the way I'm leaning.

Try barring with middle or ring finger

rather than using three finger tips...

I agree about the E chord, I still suck at it after about 9 months. I just try not to play songs with it in them, which cuts out about half the freakin songs in the world.
