100% agree madmezzo. Countess must look sad, not pretty; Dorothea does exactly that. And if one really needs find her a little flaw, it could be a little too much volume at times; otherwise accurate pitch, beautiful voice, perfect control, excellent expression (and acting).

I don't get it. What is so bad about this woman? She sings it full voice for the most part, which is a bit of an adjustment to my ears, but she handles it pretty well. Give a girl a break!

elias12186, you are incredibly rude.

I agree with the supporters. Te Kanewa sings it beautifully but dramatically it doesn't make nearly as much sense as the way Roschmann sings it. The countess shouldn't be someone who structures her emotions into a beautifully sung aria, she should SHOW those emotions. By the way, Röschmann is doing an even way better job in the Harnoncourt/Claus Guth production (brisker tempi). Also on youtube, that is perfect for me.

What is with all the negative comments here?! This is perhaps the most human portrayal of the Countess I have seen and I've spent ages looking at every version I can get my hands on. So often it is hard to feel compassion for this character because it is played too reservedly in the few moments where she is alone to show the audience her humanity...Dorothea is incredible. Enough said.

why do people absolutely dislike her?? Maybe a little too agitated acting in some parts of the production (not here)... anyway she's not bad as the countess.
I love her Pamina in 2003 Zauberflote, btw.

With all the respect for your trouble to upload the clips, you cannot make such a description, regardless of how little you like Dorothea Roschmann. What if she sees it ? At least her work deserves some respect. I only hope she gets to read the other positive comments. In my opinion, she is WONDERFUL ! Such a beautiful voice and such a good actress! You can feel every emotion of the countess, all her pain and desperation. Love you, Dorothea! For me, you are the ideal countess.

I wonder how true operalover could write this sort of description. "Porgi Amor" isn't perfect here, but Dorothea Röschmann is great singer and great artist and she is doing very good job in this production; especially in "Susanna, or via, sortite" and "Esci ormai" she is IMPO second only to Carol Vaness (Met'85).

Why, I think she is passionate, and I think Mozart was too. Loving this aria, I am happy there are so many different interpretations to enjoy. It is a question of flexibility! Deciding on one interpretations as "the best" will leave very few t enjoy.

this is spectacular. te kanawa has an absolutely beautifull voice ,but a littlle vibratoless and boring(ultimately), she's not a passionate woman.. Dorothea has it all, Just watch, deh se piacer me voui to confirm this. This woman does what Joan Sutherland does but in a different way. she delivers superb style in a way that has rarely been done before
I love Dorothea Roschmann, but I agree that the Countess is not a good role for her. She is a perfect Vitellia, Donna Elvira, Pamina, and Fiordiligi even, but something about this role just doesn't suit her as well.

Can't you just have sing crappy composers like puccini and wagner please?

Well, she is nothing to write home about, but she certainly doesn't suck as bad as Renee Fleming.

We agree there! And she also doesn't bust out her fat cleavage like renee fleming.

Esto es Porgi amor. Dove sono es el aria del acto III. Además Dorothea Röschmann es una cantante genial (aunque su Condesa no sea tan buena como la de Te Kanawa ;-))

Fixed it. But she still is horrible, that can't be fixed. Enjoy the video
