flesh it before you salt it and try not to do it if it is frozen.

nice man, and use a duller knife ! :)
don't need anything sharp to scrape the flesh
dull knife and more pressure :)

aye i agree with wolfman i just started tanning also and it is way way easier to scrape it first before the salting and again after you have salted =) and you can also tear at it and peal it off by grabbing it with a small pliers also or as being a chick i used my nails nicely however its kinda gross

You can tan many different ways. I find that the easiest way is to do it right after skinning the deer. I use a dull draw knife. Hang the hide on the beam and lean up against the hide and beam. Draw knife away from yourself. Keep it wet while drawing. All of the meat/fat/ and membrane will come off.

@faehellblade Faehellblade thanks for the advice. I have a great friend down in the states that uses a draw knife and I think I will follow it. It's cheaper than a fleshing wheel but seems to be much quicker. I wanted to do it as close to the traditional way as I could without brain tanning it. I might have a hide in the coming days and will be using a draw knife. Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for watching.

@SneakyC9 Haha, yeah it was getting too cold outside and the flesh was firming up. Good thing I had a tarp.

Yah I'm new to this also. I took all the meat off first it really helped. I used a sharp filet knife. All I did was get edge of the meat off with my fingers, and if you pull the meat up and away from the hide you'll see a little white almost clear membrane attaching it to the skin. Without applying any pressure just slowly touch the knife to the membrane. Its time consuming but it works. Just don't apply any pressure or you'll cut to deep. I'm going to start skinning my deer this way.
