I did several test's on my iphone 3gs that is running IOS 4.0 and I am having the same reception problem as the phone 4. I confirmed this by also doing the same test on my Wife's iphone 3gs that is running OS 3.1.3. I believe that this test will confirm that the iphone 4 has a software bug somewhere. Please excuse my video at the end, my camcorders battery died.

  • so are you trying to say that S.Jobs doesn't know what the problem is, as his email reply posted on engadget and techcrunch suggests that it is definitely a hardware issue. Also the antenna location of iphone3g/3gs and iphone 4 are different. Also you must have noticed the old video(posted at engadget in the same thread where you posted your link) of similar issue on iphone 3g. So basically this has been an issue since long, but not much pronounced in 3G/3GS as compared to iphone 4.

  • @hary536 Sadly harry I believe steve knows that it is a software issue and when he sent that email to engadget he was trying to be "funny" and he shouldn't have done that because it created a major mess now. This video confirms that is it a software issue. Is quit obvious isnt it ?

  • 5 bars I think you mean

  • the iOS 4.0.1 do also give unprodictble recepion issu.... my iPhone 3G have bigger issu now then the earlyer version then 4.0...

  • i totaly agree with u there... i have a iPhone 3G and after i installed 4.0 and 4.0.1, the signal is unprodictuble... so i think also it has to do that u shud think about it before installing 4.0.1.. even when they fixed it alittle, it stil unprofictuble... but this can be just childrens sickess and they will fix it in time...

  • why is everyone testing the software updates on iPhone 3GS's?! no one has ever really complained about it on that phone. i want to know if it's a software problem with the iPhone 4 or if it's the new design? :)

  • I mean did the guy confirm that he was joking???? NO... So there is an issue after all with the antenna thing,

  • I tried this same test with a friends 3Gs with 3.1.3 and my iOS 4. Both phone kept all signal bars. Might be the area too. Far from the signal tower..

  • @sorabhsharma Touching any phone WILL cause some loss of reception. The iOS4 only exacerbates the issue, and is proven with this video that it is indeed a software problem. If the software was configured correctly to begin with, then this issue would not be as big of a deal that it is. But even then, it's still Apple's fault. STILL a software issue!
